Just curious who has played ffxii, i rented it last week and iv been playing pretty steady so far. From what my supervisor tells me though im not even close to half way done the game. And now looking at
( http://www.m4lu.de/ff12maps/# ) im starting to see how huge the game actually is. The number of optional espers and rare mobs/hunts is amazing. This is probably the best rpg iv played in a long time

Its a nice installment thats better than I thought it would be but I don't think its the best ff...and I think im the only one who refuses to use vaan in a party lol. Tell me if you get stuck on a spot

It was better than I expected it to be; the new battle system is quite fun compared to the old turn based system.
The only thing that will leave you wanting at the end is the lack of character development. They don't really show the main villain all that much, and you're left feeling curious as to why your main characters even stick together through the story. They even put in a scene where Vann says he's only with the company because he's got nothing better to do with his life.
The espers(summons) are cool but some are difficult to use, and many become obsolete at later points in the game.
But the game does have amazing graphics, and enough side quests to keep most people happy, I particularly liked the gilgamesh clan hunt, as it payed homage to many past final fantasy weapons like the gunblade from FF8 and the water sword from FF10. I also enjoyed Frans storyline, although brief it's the only one that makes you really feel for the character.
Overall it's definitely worth playing.

I got it at launch, played the hell out of it, and I ended up never beating it. I have 51 hours on it, was doing pretty well with the optional hunts and stuff, had my characters gear out pretty well, etc. But then Guitar Hero II came out, and then the Wii came out, and then I got my 360, etc, and I don't even have my PS2 hooked up anymore. I need to finish it sometime D:

My biggest gripe about the game is how frustrating the buffs are. Everything's gambited so I don't have to do it myself, and that's cool, but it's frustrating to have to sit and wait for one character to rebuff, then another, and then I run around for a minute, get in two fights, and they gotta do it again...and what makes it worse is how Lure is an arcane magick so I gotta sit there for three minutes as Vaan fails it over and over again 'cause he's a cunt D:

Oh and my other complaint is that they made the main character a fing wussy ass gender bending kid. I haven't like a main character since Squall.

Zidane (I think was his name) from FF9 was pathetic/retarded looking. And Tidus from FF10 just had an air of annoyance about him, and he dressed like a european grunge kid. FF10-2 had Yuna as the main character and I never liked her to begin with, stupid bitch. And her new spunk didn't make her that much cooler, she was still a sap that only thought about getting Tidus back. But none of the ladies of final fantasy can really compare to Tifa or Aeris, save maybe Lulu or Fran.

Ultimately I would have enjoyed playing Basch or Baltheir more, and their storylines were far more interesting than Vaan's, just some street kid who happened to have a brother in the war with Arcadia, wtf.

basch tanked too, but he's so hardcore that he probably never felt it.

ya i had the imperial march playing in my head in a couple of the cut scenes. I really liked the game. x/x2 sucked balls, and i never really liked 9, but this was a pretty great game overall for me. I was disappointed when armor didnt change on the characters... vaans little half vest really pisses me off so much. I just beat the henne mines / the goron jungle dragon last night before i went out, but iv been pretty pumped to keep playing... the story is enough to keep me interested. I like how they did the license system too and the weapons are pretty nice... ninja swords and katanas ftw
