You can really die from drinking too much water! O.o Wow. I would never do that shit for a Wii. I waited for 6hrs over night for a Wii in the cold, and they passed out vouchers in the morning...got cut off right in front of me. I was soooo pissed I will never wait or do anything stupid for one. Just not worth the 250$ thing.

Hyponatremia.
Yeah happens to people who drink excessive amounts of water before sporting events and stuff. Lower electrolyte concentrations in the blood ftl.

All human cells can either take in too much salt, or too much water. With drinking too much water you basically dilute your own cells.

One of the first ecstasy related deaths in the UK (Leah Betts, 1995) was because the girl panicked and killed herself by drinking too much water.

A poster campaign with Leah's picture went out to try and stop the trend of taking ecstasy. They naively put the slogan "One apple is all it took" and the whole rave/club culture went searching for apples (including me, hahah!).

400 Australian Dollar = 313.680 US Dollar
400 US Dollar (USD) = 510.074 Australian Dollar (AUD)
Median price = 0.78320 / 0.78420 (bid/ask)
Minimum price = 0.78300 / 0.78400
Maximum price = 0.78320 / 0.78420

I bet you that radio station is gonna be facing a lawsuit over this. Granted, it was her choice, but that was just an ignorant contest. What's next, eat lead paintchips for a free 55" LCD tv :-?

It's too bad she didn't die for something that is actually worth dying for...like...you know...anything but the Wii.

Excessive water in the body causes salt levels in the blood to drop which interferes with brain, heart and muscle functioning, leading to death.

Excessive water in the body causes salt levels in the blood to drop which interferes with brain, heart and muscle functioning, leading to death.Pretty much right - your plasma sodium level is decreased, but it doesn't cause interference with brain, heart and muscle function as such, but rather causes water to be sucked into your brain cells under osmotic pressure (tendancy for fluid to pass through a membrane due to solvent concentrations either side of it - equalising the concentrations), causing them to swell - which leads to pressure on the brain stem resulting in coma and eventual death.
You don't die from excessive water drinking leading to swelling of the body tissues, unless the swelling is in the brain cells. Swelling elsewhere will obviously cause discomfort/sickness but not death (If your sodium levels are maintained the water doesn't rise to the brain - ie if you drink salt water).

The Wii is EVIL, hiding behind a guise of fun-for-everybody entertainment!

It was pretty obvious that it was evil when they named it after liquid excrement...

You can really die from drinking too much water!
When an animal consumes too much water, the animal cells begin to burst because of the amount of water they're absorbing. Plants don't have this problem because of the cell wall which animal cells lack.
