View Full Version : Anyone using Eyefinity?

Just started messing around with a few smaller monitors. Bought a 5770 to fuck around with it, and it's pretty amazing.

Screenshots coming later when I get a 5970 and 3 30 inch monitors for a 7600x1600 gaming experience.

For now it's only 2600x1024 or so on the smaller monitors.

Never heard of it but I assume this is some type of software that displays games over multiple displays? Sounds kind of cool, but not exactly in my price range. Lemme know how it works, I do have two monitors.

I tried it with two, but it kind of sucked because your the middle of the screen was split down the middle. With 3 though it's amazing because you have legitimate peripheral vision. I'm just worried that it might lag at that resolution with games like metro 2033 and shit in DX 11. I'll definitely post a video though.

It seems to work best with an odd number of monitors, otherwise you get a bezel in the middle of your face. They have a thing in the driver, I can't remember what it is called... Basically you can compensate for the bezel and "cut" off some of the image, but that would piss me off.

Also, it will lag at that res. You either need one more or the 4GIG special edition imho. 1gig of ram split per GPU sucks for a res that high. Even then it would still lag at max.

Also I just realized that picture is sins of a solar empire.

I love that fucking game.

I was very worried about lagging at that res. I hear it works fine for most games outside of Crysis though.

You don't think one of these will do the trick?

I'm gonna have to see if crossfire works with eyefinity.

It does work in crossfire, though the support isnt there like it should be, since it some hotfix driver for an old version or something (hilarity at the fact that Nvidias eyefinity equivalent only works in SLI)the problem with eyefinity with the 5970 is that because the memory is allocated 1gig per GPU in a 2x1gig pattern. you have so much resolution running around that it fucks it over.

Case and point, the 5870 eyefinity edition(2gig card with 1 gpu) does better than a 5970 with some games with eyefinity on.(seems like most actually)

But the res you are talking about, is a lot bigger than what most people run eyefinity with. I can see it working with old games, 2033 is a bit of a stretch with 4xAA. If you are mostly just running racing sims and games a few years old it'd probably be fine.

These cards are fucking awesome imho.

its mostly video memory that becomes a bit of a problem.

The point im just trying to demonstrate here is you are pushing 12 megapixels in resolution. Most setups go for 7 megapixels. They have troubles with it lagging at 7 megapixels... how are you going to push the extra 5?

My card is probably to old to support it, but I have a 22" middle screen and two 17"s, you think I should try it out? I have an MSI 4850 thats fast approaching two years old.

I have a second power plug I'll plug into my computer. I see your point though; AA is a bitch.

Talorth

Should work fine for sc2 imo.

I'd recommend the eyefinity 5870 over the 5970 btw. You really are pushing video memory with this shit.

Not to mention microstutter at low FPS isnt fun with crossfire/sli

Definitely, but oh well. It's more of an experiment than anything.

BLACK

I read through some of those egg reviews. Fuck em, I'm gonna try it. If it doesn't work, newegg has good customer support. Another option is to step down to the 5870. I really don't know much about computers so it's really whatever.

That's just the bullshit setup with small monitors and a cheap graphics card. Real one coming soon.

5770 is a cheap card watchu talkin bout james. If I were in the market for a video card right now i'd probably buy it. Or the 470.

when I bought mine over 2 years ago it cost me 1,500, sony is not overpriced I bought a 52 inch 1080p sanyo 2 months ago and I still prefer my 42 inch over it, in my experience sony has the best quality tv's you'll have to compare them side by side to see the difference. In anycase it's definitely better than 3 piece of crap monitors bunched together.

Talorth

Dumbass, party of ONE.

Lollolol hueheuhueuhuehe im so cool with my insults.

Eyefinity works in a completely different way than a 16:9 panel. I'm sorry that you are too mexican to understand that... Maybe i'll have to demonstrate with mexican foods.

For example, eyefinity is kind of like a burrito... its really wide.

Archaos
April 26th, 2010, 08:26 PM
Bro, you can't do Eyefinity on a single 42" monitor. Regardless of how good it looks.

Maybe, but it's not better than 3 nice monitors bunched together. Plus, resolution bro.
