Hrmm, other than being aesthetically pleasing.. the design is flawed imo. The whole side is a screen... which seems cool at first until you drop it and it skids across the pavement, and at $400-600 that's gonna be quite expensive to replace should your warranty expire. Not to mention that if it's going to be a phone and a mp3 player it better have one hell of a battery life.

Well the design of a g5 or mac pro and not the hardware is what makes the system unique and better in my opinion. But how are macs TOTALLY different?? same apps any pc has. Oh but games... i forgot... /switch os. And ya you dont care about what that phone has to offer but every phone out there has these features, my 710i has email, pictures, music, calling, messaging... but the iphone put all of this at the touch of a finger, id say thats a better phone. Either way apple offers a better product in my opinion.

Whatever you say, Apple's decision to say "3G, we don't need it" has made them design a previous generation phone.
3G is what gives a phone fast downloads, it's what makes video streaming possible.
Apple have basically come out with a product which says:
"want the next-gen telephone features? BUY ANOTHER MANUFACTURER'S PHONE"

BBC News 24 had a brief article this morning while I was ironing my shirt. They showed everyone cheering like only the overenthusiastic plastic American mad-men can when Mr Jobs announced it was a phone too.
Mr Job: "It's an iPod and it's a phone, look it's got numbers"
Crowd: "WOOOOOOHOOOOO HALLEILUIA PRAISE THE LORD I'M COMING IN MY PANTS WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!"
The newsreader said it wasn't 3G compatible, which has become the standard for video phoning on a mobile. I guess the BBC may have been wrong though?

I wonder if itll be made with the same cheap plastic coating the Nano had that scratches really easy.
I'm sorry but Apple makes cheaply built products, their 24" imac is made out of plastic. Granted the majority of Flat Panels are plastic but it kinda feels cheap for a 2400 dollar machine.

A machine isn't about design, granted a machine should look pretty (think lianli cases). I dislike limited hardware support for other peripherals, I can't always pick the video card/ram/etc I would like to have. And for what they give you, they are charging an arm and a leg just for their OS/Hardware. And no, mac/pc aren't really arent that different... One just costs alot...
Apple has had a bad product record too with alot of their products. It is unlikely that the iPhone will have good battery life, I mean look at the thing... Whats the point of this device if its not on 3g and has bad battery life, not to mention costs $600 USD?
Oh, and iTunes is a counter intuitive piece of software.

I like Apple. Earlier today I got an email from them thanking me for registering my new 8mb nano. In the email they offered to let me download their single of the week free for one year, so that's 52 songs per year. Well there's no way I was going to turn down a freebie of year long proportions so I followed the link. The computer clicked, chirped and whirred a little, my IE window vanished, iTunes cranked up, iStore jumps up on the screen, a little download bar appears and makes some miniscule progress, AND THEN a pop up informs me that "The free Single of the Week service is unavailable in the UK".
Now to me that's fucking class. If you're gonna outright exlude people it's a lot more fun to really get their hopes up and then fuck them over. Steve Jobs is da man.

The only thing apple has ever, and will ever, contribute to the world is the pressure point touch screen that they're working on. It isn't limited like all touch screens are now, to one pressure point, it can read any amount of pressure points.
Besides that, I'm sad that Apple didn't go bankrupt when they almost did. I would've celebrated that day like an international holiday.
They sell crap, and then instead of making it upgradable they say "OH HEY, BUY ANOTHER ONE FOR THE SAME PRICE OR $100 MORE". They hired monkeys as their engineers, because nothing with the internal design of the iPods actually makes sense, it's the most retarded thing ever.
Just because something looks like cheap plastic doesn't mean it's good.

The initial response from the people on the internet yes. Most of the people that buy iPods barely know how to use the iTunes program they have to use for the iPod, and they are loving this fucking idea right now.
The "cingular only" crap isn't really valid, seeing as how it's Americas most popular cell phone provider, as well as has the best coverage over the states.

Actually, Verizon has both more customers and the largest coverage area in the US (followed closely by Alltel and Sprint). Verizon and Alltel also have many, many 3G phones, while Cingular (Now AT&T... again) barely even supports 3G.
Also, the iPhone has no third party support, meaning the thing comes with what's on it, you can't add new applications unless they're specifically made BY Apple. So long, dreams of awesome homebrew apps. It's a pretty phone, and has a nice interface, no doubt, but once you get beyond the screen, the thing's a piece of shit. Apple's PCs have nothing that make them any different from a normal PC other than the fact that I can't build one myself without paying Apple's luxury tax of having a pretty box with an Apple logo and OSX 10.4 (which is not worth the $500+ premium).

I wasn't even referring to the mac pro, that's apple's high end system... they aren't going to cheap out on something expensive... however their logic motherboard, os, and computer case are not worth the extra $1000 dollars the system will cost.
It is a beautiful case don't get me wrong (not my paticular style, I hate the giant apple logo too). But I could build that system myself in a slightly less attractive case (I like the case more myself, but people dont get that "ooo Oo mac" feel I guess... FreeBSD is probably the best OS out there right now (Mac OS is basically a pretty FreeBSD), and Windows is the platform of choice for gaming, bar none. Macs used to be the platform of choice for bandwidth-intensive operations (video/photo/music manipulation), but now that it's just like a PC, there's really no other advantage. That's all I'm saying, really. Especially now that MS has created the whole XNA system, gaming on Windows is only going to get a whole lot better in the coming months (i.e., simultaneous development of 360/PC games due to XNA :3). I personally can't wait for Gears of War and Halo 2 for PC >:3)

Atleast my clown suit OS is actually usable in any corporate setting. Any company that is run on Macs is bound to go into bankruptcy, and that's almost a proven fact.
Macs are useless for anything besides looking pretty. The engineers at Apple should be fired, because they got their degrees from a fucking cereal box. I'm not even out of college and I personally could make the innards of a Mac more more efficient, and actually useful.
The people that are you there that agree with you are also retards, and I'll laugh at you when Apple tanks. There's only so many times you can release the same product over and over with minor upgrades and charge an extra $200 for it before people catch on.

I'm not a fool at all. Before iPod Apple was on the verge on bankruptcy, and that is well known. And don't try to even talk to me about how it works within the business. I've been an IT support at scattered large companies for several years, and as soon as they have a problem with a Mac my bosses have told me to go and tell the user to buy a PC.
They're absolutely worthless, you can outmatch a PC with the Macs performance any day, and Macs aren't cheaper at all, they're just are plain horrible. Apple's products have the whole "media editing etc." aura around them, but now the PCs have far overcome it.

As for the RDF, quote taken from wikipedia.
Reality distortion field (RDF) is both slang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slang) and computer industry jargon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jargon). The term was coined by Bud Tribble (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bud_Tribble) at Apple Computer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Computer) in 1981 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981) to describe company co-founder Steve Jobs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Jobs)' charisma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charisma) and its effects on the developers working on the Mac project; by making them believe in what they were doing, enormous amounts of work were put in to bring the project to fruition. Later, the term was used to refer to devoted Macintosh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Macintosh) users and others, and to several products launched by Apple, whose success has been largely inexplicable in technical terms. In essence, RDF is the idea that Steve Jobs is able to convince people to believe almost anything with a skillful mix of charm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charm), charisma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charisma), exaggeration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole), and clever marketing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing).
RDF is said to distort an audience's sense of proportion or scale. Small advances are applauded as breakthroughs. Interesting developments become turning points, or huge leaps forward. RDF focuses less on outright deception and more on warping powers of judgment.
The term is sometimes extended to other managers and leaders in the high-tech industry, who try to convince their employees to become passionately committed to projects, sometimes without regard to the overall product or to competitive forces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Competition) in the marketplace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketplace). In many instances, RDF is considered more self-delusional than effective.

Jobs worked at NeXT, which was a pretty innovative computer company. The other parts of Mac OSX are from NeXTStep, their OS. Apple bought out NeXT and Jobs went back to being CEO, Apple was close to sinking before that. In fact, MS dumped tons of money into them to keep them from tanking.

I've never been a big fan of Mac just based on my experience with the computers/os's themselves.. my father actually wasted money on an iMac - looks like a plastic fisher price computer you'd get for a child.. it had nonstop problems and the only thing you could expand on it, were the usb slots.. talk about versatility.. it even came with a handle on the top incase you want to lug it back to the place you bought it and scream at them for selling the most useless piece of shit in the computing world.
I know how terrible Microsoft can be, and I wouldn't stand up for them at all.. but Mac's are garbage to me and don't appeal to the average computer user at those prices.. fuck that, fuck Mac.. fuck this iPhone, just another distraction.

iMac is made of plastic, like, really cheap plastic.
