So I have this boring job where I just sit on a computer for the University like three nights a week and basically just sit on the mond and facebook cause they are the only sites that aren't restricted. I was curious how remote desktop worked and what I could all do with it, would I be able to like run games and shit from my PC on this one? If so how do I set it all up? Any info would be cool cause this is boring as fuck.

you won't really be able to play games via remote desktop for 2 reasons afaik
1) the lag, your conntecting through your pc with another
2) the pc your on at work prolly doesn't have 3d gfx, decent ram, etc, its prolly most all in one motherboard type thing, cheaper for the uses a school pc would need.
also on campus i'm sure there IT guys are pretty smart, and they've got ports blocked and shit so you wouldn't be able to anyways

Graphics card at his work end doesn't matter as its the PC at home running the game.
Basically (from my understanding) remote desktop programs work like this : capture the screen, compress the image, send it to the remote computer, start all over again. What this will mean is that you will get horrible frame rates in any game you try really. Because while your computers at both ends might be fast, you're still limited by network transfer. Bring in a USB HDD with games or whatever on it and play that way imo.

usb lolz.... firewire
usb to slow, even usb 2.0
i still don't think you'd be able to play anything decent via remote desktop, i don't know for sure, its unheard for me
and schools block all kinds of ports to prevent illegal activites and protect there network from virsuses

Hmmm yeah my room mate works at the IT for the engineering dept which is huge at my university so mabes he can steal me a external HD with firewire or something, I know he stole one for himself before. I still might try the remote desktop just to see if it works.

you can't run 3d graphics over RDP
if you use it, all you can do is browse unrestricted sites, use MSN or whatever, and check your torrents
