I love mine, it replaced my piece of shit ipod that broke 3 days before moving here, and has since been open on my desk.
Having owned both, although my ipod WAS a 2nd gen one, I like my Zune more.

My only gripe is the lack of gapless playback...
Oh, and not knowing anyone else with one to enjoy the Zune to Zune fun...

if you have an ipod zune is worthless
if you have nothing, zune is awesome, basically.

Zune is heaver and larger than an Ipod with the same storage capasity and less battery life. Thus Ipod > Zune

You crazy? Zune has the same battery life as an iPod ;) I just gave it a test run over the last few days without charging over night, a good 12-13 hours of constant play time, with it being rated at UPTO 14, same as iPod, but 4 hours of video playback, twice that of a 5th gen iPod ;). I haven't held a 5th gen, so I can't comment on the weight, but it doesn't feel that heavy, it shouldn't atleast since they use the same kind of hard drive (last I read). The thing that makes the Zune larger, and possibly heavier is the wireless hardware built-in.

"OH MY GOD THE IPOD IS GOING TO BREAK MY ARM. TAKE IT TAKE IT TAKE IT"
lolol. Makes me think of that 40 year old virgin line "I should have hired a 250 pound guy to work in the stock room at smart teck but instead I hire a 90 pound girl that can't even lift an ipod for you."
