Obtaining oil from sands is an extremely inefficient process. It will only be done when there is no other means of getting oil, and by then we probably won't need it.

Is a speed6 what we in Australia call the Mazda 6 MPS? (2.4L turbo'd Mazda 6). If so, don't you guys have the Mazda 3 MPS (or speed3 I guess)? Which runs the same engine in a lighter chassis... I'd have thought this would be a more exciting car, I guess unless you wanted a bigger car (I'm a hot hatch fan :p).
I looked at getting this car (Mazda 3 MPS), but in the end I decided 190kw was a bit of a waste in a FWD, especially when I'm not racing it or anything - so wouldn't be going all out on the suspension and handling to put the power to good use. I'm most likely getting the new 6 speed Mazda 3 SP23. I figure 115kw's is sufficient in a small car that's predominantly going to be getting me to work and back, and accelerating fast and hugging corners at speeds afterthought.

Speed3:
http://www.bellengineering.net/Images/Dyno/BEGi_MS3_Xede.jpg
It looks like the speed3 has better numbers but the speed6 just has so much more in terms of after market.
Both of those are stock. I can totally trounce a speed3 with my current setup.

June 19th, 2007, 09:38 PM
Hmm yeah I don't know much about the aftermarket prospects of either car, there doesn't seem to be a strong market for aftermarket mazda in Aus - other than the RX-7 (not even the RX-8). But mind you, we've only just started getting these cars in... So I just base what I know on the stock figures :p
Mind you I probably shouldn't, since I drive an SR20 based Pulsar that on paper has a 105kw engine but flattens 160ishkw V6's accelerating in a straight line, and around corners (thanks to the massive amount of mods available).

Lamborghini
Porsche
Ferrari
Bugatti
And a few others :>
Any company that makes any form of car under $20,000 and then has a "fancy" car (like the ones mentioned in this thread) are worthless. If you don't focus on making good cars, you shouldn't even try tbh ;o
Besides, most of them look ugly as fucking hell.
Damarus
June 22nd, 2007, 09:27 AM
I'm willing to debate the 'fancy' cars point straight up with one piece of evidence:
World Rally Circuit (WRC)
For starters the cars in questions are hardly prettied up versions of their base models. They are highly tuned, precision machines. Now yes the Evo and STi are sold as street drivers, but their purpose is to be a fine tuned rally beast.
You don't see anything other than an AWD/4WD 4 cyl turbo rallying in the manufacturers class of the world circuit now do you, why? Because cars like lamborghini's, ferrari's, etc would totally suck horse nuts at rallying.
It's possible that this would be a marginal point for you though, I'm not sure if the WRC is even a known motorsport in the US, but elsewhere it's massive.

Show me where, on a street your going to need a car that can not only turn on dimes, and handle through curves with the best, but also haul ass?
Your not, you want something that rides nice, gets pussys wet, and goes as fast as possible, if you can do donuts, and drift and such, thats just a fucking bonus.
Damarus
June 25th, 2007, 07:22 AM
Donuts/drift/skiddies/burnouts and going as fast as possible is for fags.
Precision control and handling, effortless cornering under load and acceleration that throws you into your seat. This is what a car needs to do...
Burnouts, sitting at traffic lights with your sub woofers blaring and straight lines are for bogans.
Having said that though, a large factor in my opinion on this matter would probably be the area I live in:
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=hawkstone+road+roleystone&sll=-25.335448,135.745076&sspn=21.431405,35.244141&ie=UTF8&ll=-32.131686,116.147289&spn=0.009849,0.017209&t=k&z=16&om=1

Sebring International Raceway?
Sebring Raceway is one of the oldest continuously-operating race tracks in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States), its first race being run in 1950 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1950). Many consider Sebring to be one of the classic race tracks in North American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America) sports car racing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car_racing), and the 12 Hours of Sebring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_Hours_of_Sebring), 24 Hours of Daytona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24_Hours_of_Daytona), and 24 Hours of Le Mans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24_Hours_of_Le_Mans) to be the trifecta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trifecta) of sports car racing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car_racing).
The course of the track is 3.7 miles (5.95 km) long. It is a seventeen-turn road course with long straights, several high-speed corners, and very technical slower corners. Many of the turns and points along the track are named for the early teams and drivers. There is very little elevation change around the track and little camber (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camber) on the surface, providing a challenging track for drivers, especially when it rains.
Sebring is renowned for its rough surface. The course still runs on old sections of World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II)-era landing fields that were constructed of concrete sections with large seams. The transitions between sections are quite rough and often, sparks fly from the undercarriages of the cars as they traverse them. Much of the track has intentionally been left with its original concrete runway surface. The track surface has 2.4 miles of asphalt and 1.2 miles of concrete.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebring_Raceway#_note-5)
Sebring is most notable for hosting the 12 Hours of Sebring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_Hours_of_Sebring), sanctioned at various times by the FIA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%A9d%C3%A9ration_Internationale_de_l%27Automob ile), IMSA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Motor_Sports_Association), and now, the ALMS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Le_Mans_Series). The track also hosts the Historic Sportscar Racing (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Historic_Sportscar_Racing&action=edit) series, and is home to the Audi Driving Experience (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_Driving_Experience). Many Champ Car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champ_Car) and sports car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car) teams use Sebring for winter testing due to the warm climate.

LOL I read an interview with him, and he was talking about how much harder it is to drive NASCAR, because of the limited grip, unlimited lines etc. He was right in the sense that it is harder to drive, but a shitload more boring to watch. He's doing ok, but got rocked the other day.
