Too bad it won't get you a job outside of Sweden ;D
Anyways, yea, um, since I'm in-state UCONN is fairly cheap (by fairly cheap I mean $18k / year) but then there's grad school and such.
I just gave up on even trying to manage money when it comes to college. So far I've made the money over the summer+money before college, but that's gonna end :<
Eh, $100k+/year after I'm done though, not too shabby tbh :D

My first year at college was at the University of Toledo (in Ohio), and it cost 15k per year which was living on campus and such. But, I also attended a local community college which is around 1k per semester. Tbh if at all possible you should attend a community college and get your core classes down in 2 semesters or so (english, math, sci etc) it will save you money and its the same damn thing. Then go off to college and take your major classes and have funnnn!!! :)

Usually your first year of college is just BS classes that everyone has to take (core classes). Then after that you start taking your major classes...

Well since I'm a biochemistry major, all the chemistry and biology and math classes that everyone else also has to take, are also classes that must be taken for my major lol. Even the writing and public speaking classes are apart of my major because I plan on being a research scientist in my field, which means writing a shitload of papers and speaking to crowds.

What I don't exactly agree with though, is wealthy people getting scholarships. I mean sure you can earn and deserve it which is cool (hell I can afford my tertiary education so it's not like im whinging), but I thought the idea of scholarships was for less fortunate people who deserve to go to collage and shit but can't afford it :s It's like when a rich guy wins lotto sorta :p Unless of course there are enough of these scholarships to go round and then some... That or if poor people don't exist where you live :s

The irony is that for the majority of people who can actually get the scholarships, they are usually well tutored. (Tutors cost money.) Or they are well determined, which usually only comes from parent's who are smart enough to be able to help their kids.... who usually have good jobs to begin with.
Of course for the rest of us we just cbf.

If you are a high performer and are going to be able to afford easily to go to college anyway, logic says you will regardless of a scholarship :p
If you are a high performer and are unable to afford college though, without a scholarship logic says you're life is with the mcdonalds franchise.

There are huge differences between the scholarships that BLACK is receiving (due to merit) and for those that can't afford it. If you parents, or legal guardians, make under a certain amount per year, you can actually get a grant from the government that pays most, if not all, of your education in college. Just because a wealthy person happens to do well in school, should he not be rewarded? :<
Damarus
June 22nd, 2007, 09:17 AM
Ah ok, that makes things a little different then.
Nothing to do with him not being rewarded really... I mean for starters if his parents could pay his way through with ease anyway, it's not a whole lot of a reward. And apparently the scholarship in this case was easy to obtain... So then I guess that begs the question why does this scholarship exist if it doesnt encourage real excellence o_O
But yer, on the whole being able to afford schooling subject, getting some money to pay isn't always enough and obviously having a scholarship like Black is describing would encourage a higher standard from bright but less fortunate students?
I guess basically I just don't understand scholarships of this type... I mean I understand sporting ones, they are completely different to monetary grant sorta scholarships obviously. But yer, I guess being a public school kid I tend to side with the kids who do well under shit circumstances...

It's not really THAT easy. I probably won't be going to an in-state college anyway.
