I wouldn't refer to it as a joke. It is an organization, at least from it's inception, that has tried to address the historical wrongs committed against "so called" niggers. Whether it strayed in recent years from it's early nobility is irrelevant.

I was born in 1972. I hadn't really thought much about the NAACP except when white people made fun of it that is. Never carried their card or actively advocated their cause. Contrary to popular opinion, blacks don't all mindlessly rally around organizations like the NAACP or politicians like, say, Al Sharpton. Many realize that these entities, like their white counterparts, are out for themselves and have their own agendas. Having said that, I find it hard to believe that they never actually helped advance any people of color. I can remember from my childhood times when the NAACP was brought up by others. It was mocked, laughed at (exactly like Black did actually). Hard to debate though because I really don't know too much about them.

As to the food you love, I developed an aversion to both watermelon and chicken because in the white neighborhood I grew up in, I was always reminded how much blacks love that shit. When I went to an all white summer camp (Russian actually) watermelon was always around. I never ate it. The other kids would be incredulous as they would ask "YOU DON'T LIKE WATERMELON?????? Yes, it is safe to say that in the early part of my childhood I would do anything to not be hated. If i could have bathed myself in white paint and gotten away with it I probably would have. Thankfully, I grew up. Also, I am happy to report, that I just had Popeye's yesterday and it was good.
