Since you two seem to have strong opinions on PC parts. Lets say you have a $2000 budget, you're building a strong gaming PC that actually mostly gets used for Photoshop work.

kgo!

Why 2x SSD's? RAID? 0 or 1?

BLACK

0 ofc

Damarus
September 12th, 2011, 09:54 PM
0 ofcYeah, that does make more sense. Is it a worthwhile increase? Considering having an SSD is already a massive increase over HDD for speed. Or did you just include it because it fitted in the budget?

It's huge. I personally have this setup (the dual SSD) and it is awesome. I haven't done any real benchmarking but just from the 'seat of the pants' feel it's much much much faster.

Damarus
September 13th, 2011, 07:42 PM
Ahhh fresh! I love pants. Where would I wanna cut down if I wasn't keen on spending quite as much as Craig on a new BOX. The graphics looks like the obvious place to make a saving from a total $ point of view?

What do you put on your SSD's and what goes on the HD? Basically OS and software on the SSD's then media and games and stuff on the HD? Or could you even squeeze games onto the SSD...the load times would melt my balls into a glowing paste.

Odd, for once I don't disagree with John... Although I'm waiting for southern islands (video cards, i imagine their midrange will perform on par or better than the 6970) and bulldozer(probably wont make a diff) to come out myself, AMD has big plans to end this year with a bang.

Win7 isn't a gigantic OS so you can fit a few games on the raid config.

I'd like to point out though to John that if the aussies here meant 2000AUD thats significantly diff than $2000 USD.

oh and avoid OCZ SSDs like the plague, they seem to keep falling apart.

Oh I wasn't really bothered by currency, just have been totally out of touch with what a 'good' computer contains so I'm just kinda asking around. The parts he's listed are way more than I'd spend, but it's easy to just work my way back from incredible to awesome now I have some good reference points.

Why did you get a 2tb HDD and then a 500gb HDD?

Damascus
October 9th, 2011, 09:27 PM
The second one is a scratch disc for Photoshop. It's the smallest one I could find on the site I was ordering from.

Why didn't you get a faster drive then, like a raptor?

Wow people literally never post here.

Edit:

I'm selling off all my PCs, laptops, tablets and shit to buy one laptop. I just want something that is small enough to travel easily but still has a decent punch while not killing battery. Just something with good balance. RECOMMENDATIONS plix.

I preordered Skyrim before I put the PC together lol. I'll probably keep an eye out on Steam for a good sale on it though. I got BF3 on the PC and 360 to compare the graphics, too.

I need a similar type of onions. Am I to assume John's onions would still be pretty good? I figure a few months down the road they might be cheaper and that'd be a good thing.

I'm thinking about buying some replacement parts. My PC turns 4 in June. :(

Although I'm waiting for southern islands (video cards, i imagine their midrange will perform on par or better than the 6970).Just bought my new box and did exactly this. Thanks for the advice! You too John - bought a few of the parts you spec'd and then some other things that were different things and I will put them all in my box. Should destroy at any task I need it to, which will basically just be Diablo 3 and porn.
