I listen to mostly metal and I tend to stay away from bands sounding like that.
Then again, metal's pretty diverse.
Hardcore refers to a branch of metal music. You've also black metal, brutal death metal, symphonic metal, power metal, and so on.

hardcore is something that people usually wont get into right away, it takes awhile to like it and really enjoy it, you let out alot of passion and emotion when either playing/singing/screaming to it, or playing it as a band, when you scream you get to let out your frustration and such in a way thats musical and constructive to you and everyone else that listens to your music, im not biased towards it, i do really love it, but its great when you go to shows and just go crazy and get in the pit and kick people in the face with scissor kicks lol

Hardcore is basically a bunch of guys gathered together, that can't really play their instruments far to well aside from a few chords. They like to play more wierd-sounding chords, trying to set aside their genre from others. They also have vocalists that can't quite carry a note, thus they scream until their vocal chords are torn apart.
Now, some of this is actually fun to listen to, I'm not denying that it's listenable.
Slipknot does not count as hardcore tbh :P
Norma Jean is a good example of hardcore music :D

Firstly, I listen mostly to Black & Death Metal.
Secondly, Dragonforce is a bunch of non-talent fucks. I've seen them live three times, and neither of the band members can actually play their instrument. I swear to God, I played the guitar better when I first picked it up.
I'm not closed minded about the guitar, I can guarantee you that 99% of hardcore bands use the same generic formula to produce the sound they make. I'm honestly not an expert at guitar playing, and I can produce the stuff they play with ease. Now I'm not saying that difficulty reflects how good it sounds, I'm just saying there really is little to no innovation within the genre. I still am not denying that I like to listen to it from time to time (although, it is very periodic and only in small doses).

All their albums only have one or two decent songs on them. They have yet to have a "oh my god I just creamed my pants" song, and I feel like it's a waste of money buying their albums.
Finland even spawned CoB's "sister band" Norther, which is a band that sounds exactly like CoB, and they even do the same covers etc.
It's too bad Finland's metal is just going down the drain, I mean between Children of Bodom, Norther, Nightwish, and Him, they really need some good bands to recover.

Hardcore isn't music, it's noise. Now some might be enjoyable to listen to, but that doesn't make it music. I like listening to formula one cars, but it doesn't make it music.
I'm willing to bet I have the most eclectic taste of anyone on this forum (or at least like, top 5) - I listen to:
- Classic rock
- Rock (hard rock, soft rock, iunno all of them)
- Some metal (whatever you classify groups like slipknot and Static-X as)
- D&B/Trance/House/Dance
- Rap/Hip hop
- Punk (bits of any of the punk sub-genres - slower stuff, fast hard stuff etc)
- Jazz
- Some pop (shit thats on commercial radio that I don't know what it classifies as but I guess its popular)
- Indie (smashing pumpkins and shit? Iunno again I'm bad on classifications)
And after all of that, I still can't classify hardcore stuff as music. It's noise made with instruments. By definition music is an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color. I am a firm believer in hardcore possessing none of these elements :) Therefore it's expressive noise at best.

Expressive noise made by deranged teens. I've never seen anyone who practices the art of hardcore noise, who looked like they weren't abused as a child. It's not my fault that warped people lose their sense of what is and isn't rhythm and melody and believe that channeling anger through and instrument becomes music.
I never said it didn't sound good, nor did I say I didn't listen to it or enjoy any of it. That was an assumption you made because you were probably too lost in some masterful piece of hardcore mind numbing guitar deficating poetry :p While for the most part it is correct, I can on occasions tolerate the hardcore genre. It doesn't make it music just because it exists and people like and listen to it though. Like I said, I like engine noise but that doesn't mean engines produce music.

Don't try to tell me its rock though, coz there is no way it falls into the same category as like the chilli's and shit... Wouldn't it be some kind of softer metal genre? It seems you just like to think metal means its full on savage hardcore shit and you don't like to have your favourite music associated with anything thats not stab and destroy thrash music.
I figured thats why there were sub genres such as death metal and speed metal. So you can differentiate your fast paced guitar and drum bashing symphonies from the 'weaker' metals.
Also while I remember, I forgot to list bands like Pantera and Metallica before. What genre are these? (Honest question - I just want to know a genre not start a debate on this one :p)

Ah, you were honestly confused and didn't know what to classify them as. I'll help you out :D
Static-X and Slipknot are what we classify as "neo". Now this obviously just means "new" (just like neoclassicism [sp?]). Some people like to slap metal behind it, but to be honest, I don't think it is. I just call the genre Neo, and most people actually agree with me.
There's a ton of sub-genres out there, and over the years I've developed quite the keen sense for them. I can listen to almost any song from any band without previous knowledge of the song and classify it right away :D

ok, with your logic, anything that you dont think sounds good to your ears isn't music, it's in fact expressive noise, but what is music but noise? sure its many different things, but bottom line, noise. and about the little ditty about abused as a child and losing sense of rhythm and melody, your just stating assumptions blindly, if you cannot find rhythm in hardcore go listen to as i lay dying, plenty of rhythm, plenty of melody. your definition of music is greatly flawed, go listen to james blunt - you are beautiful and cry yourself to sleep.

My logic stated that I like the sound of engines - I do not however classify this as music, because it isn't. How do you pull that conclusion about my logic out of your ass? By your statement, I would think the sound of engines is music because i like the sound of it.
I also stated that I don't dislike the sound of all hardcore, therefore again your theory on my logic fails. I don't have to classify a sound as music just because I don't mind listening to it. By your logic every sound in the world that is enjoyable is music. I will go listen to those songs later (I'm at work right now), and maybe my opinion will change. As I've stated before I am bad at classifying genres so I may have disregarded hardcore songs with rhythm on the basis of me no longer thinking it was hardcore if it sounded at all like music.
As far as crying myself to sleep to James Blunt goes:
a. James Blunt is aweful (still music though - possesses all the elements I previously stated)
b. It's lunch time and I'm not tired
c. I thought crying yourself to sleep was the angry non-conformist teen thing to do? Not the generic pop listener...
oh and:
d. Just remembered what song that James Blunt one is. I'd classify it as a love song (theres like 1 sad line in the chorus and despite that he still speaks of feeling brilliant and shit, so yer) and not an emo song so I'd be more inclined to hug my pillow than cry if I were to take your advice.

music isn't just classified on the principals you've stated, anything that has a sound can be classified as music, the guy on the street corner playing the bongo drums, thats music, if you took a car engine sound and put some rhythm into it and added drums it could be classified as music.
As I've stated before I am bad at classifying genres so I may have disregarded hardcore songs with rhythm on the basis of me no longer thinking it was hardcore if it sounded at all like music.
every sound in the world could be music if you made a song out of it. i'm sorry your bad at classifying genre's, obviously you could be confused, no ones fault but yours.
As far as crying myself to sleep to James Blunt goes:
a. James Blunt is aweful (still music though - possesses all the elements I previously stated)
b. It's lunch time and I'm not tired
c. I thought crying yourself to sleep was the angry non-conformist teen thing to do? Not the generic pop listener...
a. awful
b. eat
c. no non-conformist angry teen here sorry
oh and:
d. Just remembered what song that James Blunt one is. I'd classify it as a love song
and i would classify it as, lol don't care.
sleep time night

Incorrect though. Any sound is not music. Of course drums are musical if there's a guy making a rhythm with them. Of course car engine noises can be musical if you turn them into music lol... What you should be saying is any sound can be turned into music, NOT that any sound IS music. This is an absurd statement.
every sound in the world could be music if you made a song out of it. i'm sorry your bad at classifying genre's, obviously you could be confused, no ones fault but yours.I see no fault in my own opinion, I'm sorry if you don't agree with someone thinking hardcore is trash. I know I didn't state that it was only my opinion and not a direct truth, but It'd be no fun if I said it without any kind of malice towards the genre. Your first statement is true though, every sound could be music if you made a song out of it. Because songs are music. It doesn't hold any direct relation to me saying hardcore is not music though, we shall disregard this argument from this point on as we both seem to be in agreeance that music is infact musical.
a. awful
b. eat
c. no non-conformist angry teen here sorry
a. my bad, I can't argue with that I spelt it wrong.
b. done.
c. could've fooled me, but again I can't argue with that. After all, I am not you.
sleep time night
Enjoy some nice hardcore to put you to sleep :p
