Imo, I think its trashy when tat's are in obvious places (neck, hands, fingers, etc) and excessive piercings. You can still get a good job while having tat's and piercings, but most places want them to be covered. When I started my job in pharmacy they wanted me to take out my nose piercing, or wear a clear one.

I pass out when I get blood taken. I have 3 tattoo's, its much different tbh. And its really not painful, more like...annoying like a sun burn.

Adding to that, people get addicted to getting them as well. Three of my friends that got a small one each have all said to me "I want to get another one, even bigger this time."

TBH, once I get my one tat that's it. It represents my heritage and shows people where I'm from. I might get "För Kung och Fosterland" (For King and Country) tattooed under the viking, but I haven't done Swedish military service so I'm not sure if I really should get it (even though I'd take the next plane over to Sweden if I heard it was getting invaded. I'd defend Sweden over the US any day).

My tattoo actually tickled. And I dont mind needles since I give blood a few times every year. I think it depends on ppls tolerance for pain and where they get the tat. One is enough for me I dont want anymore. Im not a big fan of girls getting tats everywhere something about it just takes the beauty away for me.

Some places are more painful than others, simply because of how many nerves are in the area. Most places however, after a few minutes "numb" up as your body gets used to the needle.

Blood isnt an issue either. Tattoos dont go deep enough to provoke any serious bleeding. Most of the time if you see blood, its mostly ink and the sanitizer stuff they wipe the tattoo with, its not all blood.

If youre one of those people who get light headed giving blood, most tattoo artist will give you breaks if your tattoo is taking a while so you can get up, walk around, get a soda, etc. They actually enjoy smoke breaks, which is a plus because smoking calms their nerves and keeps their hands steady lol.

Dealing with a tattoo is 80% mental, 20% physical Id say. Theres a few sweet spots that hurt, but if you zone out, its not bad. My hips were a good example. It was like someone dragging their nails on a chalk board for 2 hours. lolol.

Just make sure you go to a clean shop, which isnt really a problem anymore. Dont have some dumbass do it at his house or yours, etc. Remember to tip. ^.^ Its incentive for them to do better. And despite what stupid fucking people say, drunk people dont get tattoos... because places refuse to ink people whove been drinking... if they agree to, theyre not worth going to.

Some employers only care about, visable tat's like hands, neck, face, and piercings on the face. But, if its hidden, they don't care...why would they, it doesn't interfere with your work. Most real jobs where you make good money you are expected to dress a certain way. Meaning: dress shirts, pants, shoes, etc. So, how would having a tattoo on your back, arms, legs, show at all or matter? They wouldn't. It's about your over all apperance.

If you come into interview with long strangly hair, facial piercings & neck tat, but dressed well...and the next guy has clean cut hair, no facial piercings or visable tats, and is well dressed, hes probably going to get the job before you...even if you have more experience...its just how the buisness world is unfortunatly.

You'd actually be suprized as to how many people actually do have tattoo's, but they're hidden.

Zelaton is right and I'm sorry Black but you are just wrong. I have 8 tattoos in various places on my body and my tongue pierced. Guess what? I'm a teacher and a recreational therapist. My husband has been a warehouse supervisor for the last 5 years of his life and has 4 tattoos. one small one on his neck, one on his upper arm and two that cover the tops of his forearms. I'll post pictures of them when I get a chance. The reason we can have these jobs just as Zel said is because with casual buisness attire our tats don't show. We don't have wild crazy hair and are pretty clean cut otherwise. My husband is going back to school for programming and He'll be able to get job just fine because sorry to inform everyone ... but the world around us is changing. Not only do both us know how to be professionals, but more and more employers are changing thier attitudes towards what's acceptable. They will have to as the Baby Boomer Generation goes into retirement and the Gen X and Gen Y Generations come into play. My dad is a VP for a pharmaceutical company in Boston that is on the brink of finding a cure for diabetes, and he has a tattoo right on his biceps.

There's no reason to why a tattoo you can't see when you wear a T-shirt should prevent you from getting a job. If your employer can't see it, they don't know about it. And honestly, as long as you don't have it out in the open no one will care.

The following places are great places for tattoos that no one will ever see at the work place:

Arms (from shoulders to biceps)
Back
Chest
Stomach
Legs (from crotch to knees)
Crotch
Foot

There's a ton of skin in those areas you can use to get some ink done.

Anyways, if a Vice President isn't a real job, I don't know what is.

Cause I guaren-fuckin-tee I work a whole helluva lot harder than probably anyone on this board considering that my son is also disabled. I'm not sure where you live but warehouse supervisors for distribution companies have to deal with big companies like wal-mart, k-mart, cosco, target, ect. depending on what they are distributing. That was at his old job. The company He's been working for he has to deal with the state and city officials because they do distribution for Ambulances, Garbage trucks, Fire trucks, ect (any kind of city or state big vehical) parts. He wears dress slacks, long sleeved shirts and ties to work everyday except casual Friday.

You are right in the fact that I haven't seen the real world yet. That is correct. But do you seriously think that I thought of that idea all by myself? And I can agree with what Valador says. I love working in a warehouse. I had a few of those jobs in Texas and they were great. I got to work in my own clothes. I was comfortable. I didn't have to deal with people. My bosses were dicks because warehouse jobs have a very high turn-over rate, but once you got to know them, it was the coolest work environment ever. I wouldn't necessarily get it for myself, but obviously someone put a lot of work into it. No its not dead people silly! How original some ppl can be and how I normally see the same old ass tattoos over and over again =/ I think ppl should get tattoos if it actually has a meaning behind it not because you feel like going with the majority.

You can't really be the judge from an outsiders perspective imo. For example: that tattoo above, to me doesn't have meaning, it just is a really weird and original design (since I don't know the story behind it). Japanese/chinese symbols or butterflies, etc, can have meaning, you just have to ask the person who has them what it is. If they just say "oh I don't know I thought it looked cool" well then it has no meaning.

A lot of tattoo's do get old (usually ones picked off the wall/books of the tat parlor), but drawing them yourself/designing and getting them with a meaning behind them is a great way to get away from that. :)

I guess its just my opinion on it all. I dont see how a Chinese/Japanese symbol or stars or butterflies or last names on the lower back could have real meaning. I guess I can understand if a family member died that really mattered to you and you got something that reminded you of them then yeah thats understandable. The only tattoo I have ,did have meaning at one point. And it was designed by someone that used to be meaningful in my life. It still doesnt bother me to have this tat despite the circumstances, but for some I just say pick and choose your tats wisely cuz you dont want to be going down the line and slapping yourself in the forehead saying damn why did I get this stupid tattoo. It's black and gray...there might still be some redness in there due to it being only a few hours old (7 hours for the bottom part, 1 hour for the top part, lol). Ever watch Miami Ink? They have a client that is covered from neck to ankle in 1 large tattoo, and hes a multi-millionaire business man...it has nothing to do with whether or not they'd hire you. Physical looks matter, and piercings matter, but tattoos dont. I have 2 good sized tattoos, and I have never been turned down a job I applied for. Ever. The VP of my department makes 500 grand a year and showed me one of his tattoos after he saw the bottom part of mine sticking out of my polo.

At this point it seems to me like material possessions define what a good life is to you guys. You'll learn with age and experience that its the people in your life that matter, not what you own, or how much money you make...although making a lot of money does help with stress. I've still got a lot to learn myself, dont get me wrong, just try to have some more respect for people that dont have it as good as you and work hard for what they have.
