Well from my experience of installing the cracked STALKER
- burn / mount the game
- install the game (no need to insert a serial when asked)
- goto gamecopyworld.com search for update I think like 1.00001 install it
- search for a patch/crack for 1.00001 .exe on the same site
- launch game

Stalker is awesome until you fuck up a part then save over your save game by mistake, then it's like MEH I can't be fucked doing all that again, so i'm gonna pretend to be John mother fucking Rambo and just take out anything that moves. Great game, can't wait for crysis!

Mine does that sometimes too and I have a GeForce 7950GX2.
I think it's due to crappy software support :/

btw I have a GeForce 7300 LE, which I don't think is much of a gaming card, so that could be my problem.

OK, so last night after I got back from driving Lesley home, I fired up my PC and installed STALKER. Then I went to fileplanet and downloaded the patch at 750KB/sec (yay for subscription), installed the patch and fired up the game.

So without looking at the instructions at all, first impressions went like this:


Oh, it's in 1024x768, I'll switch that to my native 1280x1024, guess I'll leave the details and stuff at the default of Medium
OK, lets start a new game. Woah, that's a pretty nice cut-scene!
There is a guy in front of me, lets talk to him. Ahh, so I have a PDA and a mission now, ok lets go outside and find the guy in the mission
OMG, where the fuck has the frame rate gone? :(That's about where I had to goto bed, I'll probably look at it again tonight. Must say I'm a little disappointed on my PCs performance with default settings (aside from resolution) as my PC is only about 15-18 months old.

My spec:
Athlon64 X2 4400+
2GB Dual Channel DDR400
2 x 6800GT 256MB (SLI)
MSI K8N SLI Motherboard
4 x 250GB SATA Hard disks
Soundblaster X-Fi Music Extreme
Running XP Pro (x86)

Ok. So.

Dynamic lighting in the game is a real resource hog. The game looks beautiful, but with stuff maxed out you'll need a bastard of a PC to actually run it. There are a ton of threads on this, but essentially you will need to tweak the 'advanced' settings a lot to get the best out of the game. There's actually a decent thread on this on Eurogamer with a specific setup file that seems popular: linkage (http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_thread_posts.php?forum_id=1&thread_id=75898&start=330).

FYI tho, the SLI doesn't really make a world of difference in STALKER at this stage, although there are plans to develop that further.

For games that have big grassy areas outside you want unified shaders, so 8800GTX or GTS. The performance difference between the 7 and 8 series cards in things like Oblivion and Armed Assault is pretty amazing.

I'll get an 8800GTS 640MB in a month or two though :D

The game looks pretty fucking amazing on my system, and runs smooth as silk aswell. Id say the lowest framerate ive had in the game is around 40, running at 1680x1050 (native widescreen for my 20.1" lcd).

Get the GTX, the price difference between GTS and GTX matches almost exactly to performance difference, so its not a waste of cash....it would be more future proof also.

Nice game, but fuck me im never playing it again (finished it in all 7 different endings), its fucking scary as....well as scary as having marci as your healer...thats how fucking scary it is.

Nope, its his graphics cards.
They run shader model 2.0, which has a lot more overhead and is a lot less efficient in terms of getting the same visual quality shit done as a shader model 3.0 card (or now, shader model 4.0 with the unified shader engine).

Not to mention STALKER doesnt really use SLI, so you could consider his rig to have one of the 6x cards at 256mb....so....yeah.
