Analyst: "Gaming has been a disastrous endeavor for Microsoft" (http://www.infendo.com/2007/04/analyst-gaming-has-been-disastrous.html)

Note, this doesn't mean the Xbox has been a disaster for gamers -- far from it (cough, cough Halo) -- but Ehrenberg makes a strong case that the Xbox has failed investors by hemorrhaging Microsoft's Home & Electronics profits. He also believes that when a console fails in Japan, as the 360 appears to have done, it cannot succeed in the world market (Caveat: NEC's PC Engine did very well in Japan, and Japan alone)...

uhm k? what do i care about MS's profits. the 360 is awesome, and the games are awesome. couldnt care less if a multibillion dollar company makes less money if its good for the consumer. if anything, this is better than just about any other company when theyre willing to take risks to help out the consumer, even if it means you may take a hit. how is this at all a problem?

What he fails to mention is that the profit margin for the 360 is being effected by the Zune.
The development and production costs of that peice of shit are lumped in with the 360 under the same development studio.....without those figures, the 360 is doing great.
Its the zune thats been a disaster for microsoft. Not the xbox.

remember what xbox did? foot hold for the 360. i think the zune can do great things, especially if they uphold all the promises they made. the best part about the zune, is that even if they dont, a 3rd party program will be out to do it for you. (ie, podcast support for zune.)

zune doesnt suck. its actually great. i think people were expecting it to be leaps and bounds better than an ipod, which obviously it wont be, but its a good alternative to ipods considering it does basically everything an ipod does but more and usually does it better. the arguments i hear is
"yeah it has a bigger screen, but only a half inch!"
- so? thats a half inch bigger than yours for the same price.
"its only available in 30 gig!"
-so? YOU only have a 30 gig ipod and seem to be doing ok. despite the fact larger zunes are coming later in the year as well as smaller flash zunes. OR the fact you can swap out the hard drive yourself in just a couple minutes for a 60 gig and the zune remains the same size, while a 60gig ipod is larger than the 30 gig counterpart.
"its made by microsoft so its prolly got buggy software"
-doesnt, youre stupid, but the ipod i had froze every 12 seconds, as well as itunes erasing my ipod all the fucking time. get better.
"no videos yet on zune network"
-i rip all my shit from dvds or download on torrents for free anyways, who cares. (pirated version of cucusoft)
"its bigger than an ipod"
-by about .2 inches?
"has a fake wheel!"
-whats wrong with buttons? considering you have to flip the zune sideways to watch videos, the circle makes sense.
"no podcast support"
-podcast support is built into the zune, just not officially implemented. BUT http://www.feedyourzune.com/ (3rd party support is amazing heh)
"i prolly wouldnt use the wifi anyways, since you cant keep the song"
-so dont, you dont have to, costs the same anyways. some people will and they have the option. and obviously you cant keep the fucking file because thatd be MS helping music piracy. genius.
you also get a customizable background to put whatever pic you want on it, an fm tuner, and a much more durable device that doesnt scratch up and look like shit after 15 minutes. not to mention the ability to pay a flat rate and download whatever you want from the zune marketplace.
the only reason ipods are popular is because ipods are popular. that meaning, everyone on the block has an "ipod" therefore I need an "ipod". there are alot of devices out there that do the job better than ipod, but just arent the fad. itunes only working on ipods has also pushed the ipod out there alot as well considering most people only know about itunes and no other download site. the 4gb sansa does everything a nano does, and about the same size as a nano, except it also plays videos, has a voice recorder, displays pictures and videos, has a micro sd expansion slot, and does it all for less than a 4gb nano. creative makes a 20 and 30 gig zen that does everything an ipod video does, but more and costs a few bucks less as well. theres alot of shit out there thats better if youre willing to look for it. the ipod isnt popular for being the best device, its just marketed the best.

I should be getting the elite sometime in a few weeks. I guess I'll see how things work out from there.
I was kind of disappointed in how the Zune turned out. I didn't think the interface was as fluid as it could have been.
P.S. why don't they (Apple and Microsoft) put the OS on a solid state memory system so it's instantaneous instead of you sitting there with your thumb up your
ass waiting for a menu to load? >.>

The Elite is pretty much the same as the standard 360 I think, just with a different cable and a different HD. (Might also have different bits so it can display in a 1080p, but I personally would guess that to be a software change).
If the Zune had been available when I got my iPod, I would have got it. It wasn't though so I'm stuck with the iPod, especially since my car stereo is one that is designed to interface with it.
I only use it for music and for being a file storage device though, so I can live with that. iTunes has only erased my iPod once in the year since I got it.

the elite basically is a premium 360 with a 120 gig HDD, hdmi out (for 1080p upscaling, even though current 360s can also do it through vga and some tvs through component), its black and so are its controllers, allegedly runs cooler, and a few other bells and whistles. its got the transfer cable like the 120gb hdd does thats sold by itself so you can transfer your current data to your new elite, or new bigger hdd. its basically a direct stab to try and snatch up whatever remaining techies it can from sony.
