The movie was such eye candy.
Complete shit of a plot, but it looked really cool.
Oh yeah, and if you do the math...near the start they say that the Persians have 2-3 million soldiers, and at the end they have 10,000 Greeks commanding 30,000 more (30+10=40), so 40,000 Greeks. They then say that the Persians have 3 times the numbers of the remaining Greeks, so that makes out to 120,000 Persians.
300 Spartans killed 1.8-2.8 million Persians, try touching that siege score, Catalyst.
EDIT~That's 6266 and 2/3 to 9600 kills per person.

lol IRL the spartans did kill a couple thousand of the persians. the biggest thing they accomplished was delaying the persians a bit, and giving the rest of greece something to unify under. so while in reality they didnt kill that many persians, they did do alot in the overall scheme of things. but anyone that watched this movie thinking it would be a documentary is rather silly... xerces is like a 7 foot tall pierced and tattooed brazilian man. that should cue in speculation. and sure, while spartans DID wear armor, sometimes man tits are so profound they need to be viewed by the world.

The actual premise of what really happened is something like 300 spartans delayed the hundreds of thousands of persians for like 1-2 weeks while the rest of greece and the spartans army united and unified to fight the persians. Of course everything is played up its a movie. Also kald if you listen theres a considerable time period between the 300 falling, and the unified greeks attacking the persians. :P

Absolutely flawless.
Even the little romance they had in the movie ended up with even a woman being fucking badass, loved it.
You'd think they ruin the story by inserting some sort of romance, just like they did with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (awful movies), but luckily they decided that killing people is better.

Only way they could get the kill ratio down was to include the hunchback. Eh, most of it's already been covered by other users' comments, but...
If you've read the book Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield, you'll find that Xerxes, along with most of the Persian and Immortal(s) soldiers were heavily ornamented with jewels, piercings, etc. As in literally, A LOT more looks than armors and practicality in general. Generally they just relied on their sheer numbers to overwhelm their foes, as opposed to outright grisled combat ala the Greek armies. Xerxes has always been depicted as a visually elegant/wealthy conqueror, just like he was in the movie/graphic novel 300, and he was similarly depicted in the critically acclaimed novel Gates of Fire.
But yeah, I realize that most of you were probably already aware of all that, heh. <shrug>
Edit: Since people are mentioning LOTR (novels or otherwise), keep an eye out for the upcoming HBO series A Song of Ice and Fire. The author, George R. R. Martin, is widely considered the American Tolkien of our time, in terms of the sheer gravity of his seven-book series (aforementioned). The first novel A Game of Thrones was written in like 97-98, and the final two (I think) novels are still in the works. HBO is going to fucking rock this series so much better than it could have ever been presented on the widescreen.

Yea, read over the earlier posts in this thread - people discuss the numbers thing. I think the basic summary is that while historians can't agree on just how many the persians really took to the field, it was at least 10,000, and there was no more than 300 spartans. The spartans were born and raised as warriors, and picked the right spot to hold the enemies off at. The cinematography in the movie is pretty stylised though, as it's based off of a graphic novel.
