Didn't watch it coz I have no sound at work, but it brought to mind a question... Who here has actually been to band camp? I have, and Australian band camps are nothing like the movie @.@ Mind you I live in the hills with all the bogans and what not, but we had a lot more booze, nudity and a lot less instrument insertion...

Band camp was really fun for me tbh. Band conductor was fun (he was a jazz trumpeter dude-o-matic guy), and the band wasn't overly nerdy. Mind you, I wouldn't go on another one @.@ I quit playing any band type instruments very early in my high school career...

I played trombone since grade 4, throughout high school and will continue in college.

Music has always been the biggest thing in my life. I'm blessed with alot of natural musical talent.

I played the trumpet, then the clarinet, 5 types of recorder and the classical guitar, oh and the marrimba lol. Gave them all up though. Still have like 3 guitars (acoustic and electric) but don't pick them up too often anymore. I had skillz, but lacked conviction :(

I can play any instrument you hand me for the most part, except oddities.

D:

I've been playing upright bass since the fourth grade, and I'm just so bad at it. I wasn't too good at practicing, but in my senior year, we were set to have a really awesome concert halfway through the year, and I practiced like a maniac. Felt confident with all the music, took my audition, and still ended up fourth chair out of five. got really pissed, and I've really given up since then, i've been taking it for two semesters in college, but it's a joke class with six other players, we spend three hours a week sounding pretty bad

I wish I were better at the instrument, but I honestly don't think I have the talent

I played violin in the local youth orchestra between the ages of 10 to 18, from 15 to 18 I played first violin.

I kinda stopped when I moved away to goto University. Sometimes I wish I hadn't stopped. My violin is now in my parents attic.

I am under the firm belief that you are either born with a musical talent or you're not. People can still learn to play an instrument, sure. But to truly excell at it, it's a natural talent.

Example - Jon Bonham. Not a single lesson on drums his entire life, and considered one of the greatest.

I say keep on practicing. If you need some tips on how to do a few things to help make it easier, add my MSN you can find on my thing <--- over there. I've tutored quite a few people, 95% of which had no talent at all yet I was able to help them develope some skill with the instrument. :)
