Spore, My Sims confirmed for DS

Electronic Arts confirms Will Wright's evolutionary game is coming to Nintendo's dual-screen handheld, as is the Wii version of The Sims.

By Tor Thorsen (http://www.gamespot.com/users/thorsen-ink/), GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/) Posted Feb 1, 2007 3:36 pm PT

Just under a year ago, a job listing revealed (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6145004.html) that Electronic Arts was hiring developers for a portable version of Spore, Will Wright's forthcoming evolutionary game. Though the listing was clearly for "game systems and content for SPORE Handheld title," it did not say whether it would follow The Sims 2's lead and come to both the PSP and the DS.

Today during the conference call following Electronics Arts' third-quarter earnings report (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6165159.html), executives from the publisher finally confirmed that Spore is coming to the DS as well as the PC. Speaking to analysts, EA CFO Warren Jenson said, "[With] Spore, we will be not only focusing on the PC and online; we are launching this innovative experience on the NDS." The game will be released sometime during EA's next fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2008.

Though no further details on the DS version of Spore were disclosed, DS fans got some other good news. The Wii version of the Sims (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6162444.html), which features a more cartoony visual style, will be ported to the dual-screen handheld. Both games will go by the moniker My Sims and will also be released sometime during EA's coming fiscal year.

I fail to see how the PC version would be better. I'd much rather use a stylus to create my characters than pointing around with a mouse.

i dunno, it depends on how this one works...i mean, using the stylus would be pretty epic, but just think of the graphics engine that we've seen in those trailers. i just don't see the DS pulling that off.

The point of the stylus is to emulate the mouse of a PC, of course the PC version would be better. The DS couldn't possibly emulate the depth (both visually, aurally, and gameplay-wise) that the PC version would have.

The stylus is there to use something besides your finger when playing games that need it, I fail to see how the fuck it's supposed to emulate a mouse.

Actually it's totally different than a mouse... Have you ever played some DS game who really used the stylet? Because some of them would be way too easy with a mouse, and loose their fun.

And another good game on the DS^^ Even more to be sold^^

We all realize this isn't a direct port, but just aspects of Spore?

I'd get the DS version if the PC version and it could communicate with each other....that or the 360 version :>

will wright said somewhere that he plans on porting some of the specific stages of the game to other platforms, not the entire game..

the xbox360 might be lucky and get the whole thing... somehow though I feel playing that game with a joystick would be really bad...

I can agree that the 360 controls might be iffy. In fact, I'm a bit worried about Age of Conan when it comes to fitting all the commands you need into the 360 controller.

But hey, big game developers usually figure out the controls well, and also it's gonna be $60 instead of the $2,000 for a comp + free download :P

wiimote + spore = gg.

The ds version will be nice. Clearly the pc and ds will offer different experience but you cant take your pc around in your pocket. Either way the game looks like fun on the pc and im sure the concept will work great with the ds.

I actually see spore as a game that would work for the wii... its not graphic intesive either...
lets see if they actually make it work well!
